Balifico, Toscana IGT – 2012 – 91 points – Wine & Spirits
91 points

“The Balifico vineyard sits on a southwest-facing slope that rises to 1,350 feet, where cooler evening temperatures helped retain acidity in 2012, one of the warmest and driest growing seasons on record at Volpaia. The wine displays an earthy, mineral character, mingling notes of crushed gravel and leafy tobacco with flavors of dark chocolate, licorice and spice. The tannins feel firm and a little chunky on the finish, ready for a match with rare strip steak.”
