Blanc de Noirs, North Coast – 2009 – Wine of the Week – St. Helena Star
“She wants a sparkling wine; he wants a wine with substance. If they only want to open one bottle, they:
A) Argue until they hardly taste whatever is finally opened up.
B) Arm wrestle.
C) Open a Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs
“With the Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs (white wine made from black grapes), no wrangling or compromise is necessary. Made with a majority of pinot noir and a touch of chardonnay (13 percent), the wine has a rich palate full of red fruits, citrus, and a toasty, nutty character. There is plenty here for each of them.
“Schramsberg is given credit for pioneering the first Blanc de Noirs style of sparkling wine in the country. While the first is not always the best, this wine is proof that sometimes it is.”
