Coltassala, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG – 2004 – 88 points – Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar
88 points

“Deep ruby-red. Hints of black pepper, herbs and cedar accompany the subdued but very pure black cherry aroma. Round and plump on entry, with purer herbal and black fruit flavors in the middle. This wine’s youthfully aggressive tannins still need a few years to resolve. If this picks up volume with a little bottle aging my score will look stingy. By the way, should you come across a bottle of the 1985 on a restaurant list, it’s a very fine wine, one of the best Coltassalas ever made and still in beautiful shape.”
