J. Schram Rosé, North Coast – 2005 – Cellar Notes – Robb Report

“The owners of vineyards sometimes exhibit personalities every bit as faceted as their wines. Katherine Crofton Cebrian Pringle was such a person. This figure of 20th-century San Francisco society once lived in Madrid, but the Spanish Civil War forced her to return to California, where she entertained lavishly — with the help of appropriate staff. ‘I don’t even butter my bread,’ she once said. ‘I consider that cooking.’ She did, however, make wine: After reviving Napa Valley’s Schramsberg winery, she sold it to its current owners, the Davies family. The winery continues to build upon its rich heritage, turning out fine sparkling wines including the Schramsberg J. Schram 2005 Rose, which abounds with flavors of grapefruit, fresh ginger, lemon curd, and — as Mrs. Pringle might appreciate — buttered toast.”
