  • Introduction

    • In the local dialect, Sorì refers to the hillside facing south, while Tildin was the diminutive of Clotilde (Angelo Gaja’s grandmother).

  • Vineyard Profile

    • The Sorì Tildìn vineyard is situated in the municipality of Barbaresco, on top of a hill where, a little below, there is Costa Russi. The land, facing south, consists of clayey-calcareous marls and covers a surface of 3.38 hectares, with an average altitude of 260 m above sea level. The vines are 45 years old on average.

    • Appellation: Barbaresco D.O.P
    • First Year of Production: 1970
  • Vintage Report

    • The 2020 vintage was characterized by frequent rainfalls that can be defined as atypical for various reasons. Instead of the distribution coming in winter and spring, it was concentrated in the summer months. Despite the frequent summer thunderstorms, none of our vineyards were damaged by hail. During winter, the temperatures were mild. Particularly, January 2020 will be remembered for being the warmest in the last 50 years. The actual cold, with temperatures below freezing, arrived in mid-March and lasted a month. However, no frost damage occurred. With the sole exceptions of a heat spike in late May, one in August, and one in mid-September, the period from May to early October was characterized by alternating warm days and thunderstorms followed by cooler days. Significant temperature variations during the rest of September and October helped the color, aromas, and overall health of the grapes.

Reviews

  • Sori Tildin, Barberesco DOP – 2020 – Decanter – 95 Points

“This has a darker, denser profile compared to Costa Russi's cool fragrance: scents of red and black cherry, pomegranate and raspberry accompany ripe, intense and fragrant dark cherry flavours, with some chocolate and wood notes. There's lovely freshness to provide balance, while the long, vibrant cherry finish is rounder and creamier than Costa Russi.”

  • Sori Tildin, Barberesco DOP — 2020 – Wine Enthusiast – 97 Points

“Savory aromas and dark-skinned fruits define the nose of the wine with hints of warmed spices, dried orange peel and iron as the wine develops in the glass. A wine that is exact and focused with vibrant plum flavors at the center with notes of forest floor, anise and dried rose. Fine elegant tannins provide a foundation that will carry this wine well into the future”

  • Sorì Tildin — 2020 – Vinous – 97 Points

"The 2020 Barbaresco Sorì Tildin is a powerful, deep wine. Dark fruit, leather, spice, tobacco and incense saturate the palate. A Barbaresco of stature and brooding intensity, Sorì Tildin will need a number of years to be at its very best. The 2020 is an unusually somber, dark Sorì Tildin."

  • Sori Tildin — 2020 – Wine Spectator – 96 Points

“This rich Barbaresco shows graceful power, with a fleshy texture embracing its cherry, strawberry, mint, iron, tobacco and spice aromas and flavors. The dense matrix of refined tannins is beautifully integrated, while vibrant acidity drives the persistent, savory finish.”
