ST. HELENA, CA (June 24, 2015) – Schramsberg and Davies Vineyards’ 50th Anniversary Lot was among the showstoppers at the Live Auction Celebration at Meadowood Napa Valley earlier this month, selling at a high bid of $250,000 and boosting the annual event’s grand total to $15.8 million in funding for local charities.

“It was a very cool moment, with bidders from New Orleans, Houston, Austin, New York, Beverly Hills, Minneapolis and Las Vegas all jumping in on the action,” said Schramsberg president and CEO Hugh Davies.“As you can imagine, there were a lot of high fives and bottles popped in celebration.”

The auction lot, designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Davies family’s revival of Schramsberg Vineyards, featured a 50-year vertical of benchmark Schramsberg sparkling wines and Davies red wines, representing every vintage since 1965, as well as an invitation to join in a unique winemaking experience at Schramsberg’s winery in Calistoga. The winning bidders will join Hugh and Monique Davies for a day of winemaking activity followed by a private dinner — prepared by acclaimed chefs Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani of Terra Restaurant, Ame, and Urchin Bistrot — in the 19th-century caves on the property. Transportation and lodging at Meadowood Napa Valley will also be included.  

Auction Napa Valley is an annual charity fundraiser that since its inception in 1981 has raised more than $145 million in proceeds to the local community. In addition to the 51 lots showcased at the live auction, 120 lots were put up for bid at Friday’s barrel auction and 200 more through the online auction, all provided by members of the Napa Valley Vintners.
