Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG – 2010 – 93 points, Top 100 at a Glance – Wine Spectator

“Volpaia has produced high quality wines since Raffaello Stianti bought it in 1966. His daughter Giovanella and her husband, Carlo Mascheroni, own the estate today. Like many of the best spots for Sangiovese in Chianti, it enjoys high altitude (more than 1,500 feet above sea level) and a southern exposure. But unlike other areas, the Volpaia vineyards possess sandy soils, creating more elegant wines. A terrific value, this 100 percent Sangiovese riserva is elegant and complex, with floral and mineral notes.”
