J. Schram Rosé, North Coast – 2005 – 95 points – The Wine Advocate
95 points

“The exquisite 2005 Rose J. Schram is a limited cuvee of around 1,000 cases. A blend of 79% Chardonnay and 21% Pinot Noir from Napa (50%), Sonoma, Mendocino and Marin. With low alcohol (12.3%) but intense flavors, this light strawberry-colored rose offers up notes of mulberries, cranberries, cherries and strawberries. Medium-bodied and dry with precise bubbles, this beauty could easily compete with the finest rose Champagnes from France … a fact that I find to be shocking. Kudos to Schramsberg for a brilliant trio of sparkling wines. I was blown away by these three cuvees of sparkling wines from Schramsberg. I have been a longtime critic of most California sparkling wines, especially when compared to the finest Champagnes, but all three of these offerings opened my eyes and then some. They are three totally different cuvees made by this iconic producer in Napa Valley.”
