“We are seeing more Nerello Mascalese from central Sicily, and as expected, the grape performs very differently than it does on its native Etna. One of the most successful away-from-home interpretations comes from Feudo Montoni. The 2021 Sicilia Nerello Mascalese Terre di Elio shows bright berry and sour cherry with a lavender or lilac aroma that you don’t get on the volcano. The wine’s medium-rich weight is also more substantial. Terre di Elio is very a perfumed red wine.”
