Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes – 2007 – 93 points – Wine & Spirits

“Anne-Claude Leflaive grows wines for long aging, not for opening and pouring on the spot. In fact, she prefers that her young wines be opened several days in advance, so they can open up. This one, from a 1.8-acre parcel planted in 1963 and 1972, is so powerful it leaves you breathing limestone after each taste. There’s round, rich fruit as well, what you might describe as savory lemon and white peach, but the biodynamic farming and cellar practices have taken this beyond fruitiness to something more potent, almost sanguine, if a white wine could be described that way.”
