Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes – 2008 – 95 points, Year’s Best Burgundy – Wine & Spirits
95 points

“The domaine farms 1.8 acres in this cru bordering Meursault, the vines planted in 1963 and 1973. This vintage is on the rich side of Puligny, scented with custard apple and lemon curd, deepening to laser-like minerality as it opens over the course of several days. The pale peach flavors are mouthwatering, as if you can feel the humidity of the earth coming through the wine. As the wine develops, it captures the essence of Puligny, the upward reach of wildflowers and the gravity of limestone. The vintage’s creaminess and elevated acidity are completely integrated, making this delicious to decant for white salmon sashimi today; it will be only more glorious with ten years of age.”
