Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes – 2009 – 94 points, A Year’s Best White Burgundy – Wine & Spirits
94 points
“A cloud of richness rises off this wine, its integration so refined that it just feels good in the mouth, rolling from luscious vanilla cream to the juice of grapes taken to a higher plane. The limestone soil delivers a flavor that reads as lobster shell broth, the fruit as lemon curd and spring flowers. The wine comes from a single parcel, 1.8 acres, in this cru on the northern border of Puligny, the vines planted in 1963 and ’73, achieving what feels like perfect balance in 2009. A complex wine that will age with grace.”
