Named for a north-to-south throughway that traverses Napa Valley, this blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cab Franc with small portions of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Merlot exudes aromas of mint, cedar, and ripe blackberry. The nose mimics the palate, which sees the addition of a dusting of chocolate as well as violets and savory Italian herbs.

September rains and cool temperatures at harvest mitigated the hot, dry summer of 2016 here, allowing Volpaia to bring in a juicy Chianti Classico. Its red cherry flavors are concentrated enough to easily absorb the vanilla spice gained during its two years in new French oak barrels, the wine maintaining energy lift through the finish.

The warm, dry 2015 growing season brought full ripeness to the cabernet franc growing in Tenuta Sette Cieli's hillside vineyards overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The wine is rich and soft, the flavors of red and black berries framed by notes of dark chocolate and sweet spice gained from two years in French oak barrels (40 percent new). Ample alcohol (15 percent) adds weight and warmth to the finish.

This is a blend of Schramsberg's top lots culled from 115 vineyards, mostly in Napa-Carneros and Sonoma Coast (41 percent each), with contributions from Anderson Valley and Marin. It's more chardonnay (69 percent) than pinot noir, and 40 percent of the lot fermented in barrels. After seven years of aging in bottle on the lees, the wine has a rich, nutty autolysis character as well as enough firm acidity to structure its ripe raspberry sweetness. It has aromas of wildflower honey, ripe peach, honeysuckle blossom, fresh sliced apricot and acacia flowers. It is an ethereal blend of Furmint, Hårslevelü and Muscat. Silky smooth on entry, it offers enticing flavors of white peach, apricot preserves, honeycomb and acacia honey. It has beautiful heft on the palate with balanced acidity and crisp minerality. The elegant sweetness is perfectly foiled by bracing acidity and crispness in the finish.

One of the single-vineyard wines from this producer, this wine delivers structure and intensity. Just now mature, its smoky fruits and ripe tannins are beautifully integrated. The wine could age further, but is totally ready now.

With increasing maturity, this wine has become rich and open. The structure is still there as are perfumed black fruits. This wine still has several years in it, although it is ready to drink now.
