New leather, balsamic herb, rose, truffle and woodland berry aromas take shape in the glass along with a whiff of charcuterie. The focused, savory palate has a great depth of flavor, doling out raspberry compote, cinnamon, crushed mint and a hint of cocoa alongside a backbone of firm tannins and fresh acidity. It still needs time to fully develop.

The 2015 Barolo Ravera shows a deep concentration and dark fruit intensity. This warm-vintage Barolo opens with a ripe and soft bouquet that brings out some nice cherry notes with creamy black fruit at the back. The finish is soft and luscious. There is so much fruity succulence here that the wine should stand up to a gamey dish of liver pâté or pasta with wild boar.

This has some good depth for 2014 with darker cherries delivering a stronger impression. The aromas of fresh fruit are lightly spiced and lead to a palate that has a firm and slightly chewy edge. Drink or hold.

Fragrant blue flower, tilled earth, new leather, baking spice and wild berry aromas form a lovely fragrance. On the polished, full-bodied palate, smooth tannins and bright acidity elegantly support juicy raspberry, strawberry compote, clove and licorice.

The 2014 Barolo Bricco Pernice is vivid, precise and flat-out stunning. Like the best wines of the year, the Bricco Pernice is going to need a bit of time to be at its very best. I find the wine's inner perfume and sweetness to be utterly beguiling. At the same time, the Bricco Pernice remains taut, classically austere and in need of cellaring.

The 2014 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is full and soft with great fruit density. This is a nicely balanced wine that shows more intensity than I might have expected from this cool vintage that generally produced thinner wines in comparison. There is sweet, supple spice on the close. This elegant Barolo would go nicely with a beef and pork shank cassoulet. The wine has the fiber to age beautifully, but it will also show nicely in the medium-term, for those looking for a more accessible Barolo.

Shimmering purple. Assertive, smoke-accented aromas of fresh dark berries, violet, licorice and exotic spices. Energetic black raspberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors show impressive depth, and a spine of smoky minerality adds lift and delineation. Turns sweeter on the youthfully tannic, penetrating finish, which hangs on with strong, floral-driven tenacity.

Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. A highly complex bouquet evokes an array of red/blue fruits, flowers and spices, along with hints of vanilla, mocha and licorice. Stains the palate with sweet boysenberry, candied plum and violet pastille flavors that are underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. Delivers a suave blend of power and finesse and shows no rough edges. Closes on a smoky note, with steadily building tannins, a touch of bitter cherry and impressive tenacity.

Opaque ruby. Powerful cherry and blackberry aromas pick up smoky mineral and floral qualities as the wine opens up. Weighty, in the manner of the vintage, but showing very good energy as well, offering gently sweet black currant, cherry and violet pastille flavors that firm up slowly on the back half. Dusty tannins come in late on the finish, which hangs around with suave floral and spice notes. This wine is quite civilized both for the appellation and for the vintage.

Opaque ruby. Vibrant, mineral-accented cherry and dark berry scents pick up notes of succulent herbs, Moroccan spices, vanilla and candied flowers with air. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering densely packed black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors that are complemented by five-spice powder and mocha nuances. Closes extremely long and spicy, with resonating dark fruit preserve character and velvety tannins that fade steadily into the wine's juicy fruit. Give this one some patience as the oak is standing out a bit right now.

Brilliant violet color. Pungent, spice-accented red/blue fruit and floral scents are lifted by a smoky mineral nuance that gains strength with air. Offers palate-staining black raspberry, boysenberry and mocha flavors that show excellent clarity and back-end thrust. Finishes sappy, sweet and impressively long, with a repeating floral note and smooth, well-judged tannins.

I am reminded of the wind-swept waves of grass you see when you look over the beautiful expanse of this property in inland Sicily. The 2018 Sicilia Grillo Timpa is a balanced and fresh white wine that delivers equal parts citrus, fruit and sharp mineral intensity. Then, you get that attractive smell of freshly cut wild grasses.

This is my first taste of an Inzolia-based wine from Fabio Sireci. The 2018 Sicilia Inzolia Fornelli (made with organic fruit) offers aromas of white flower and lemon blossom with white peach and honeydew melon at the back. There is a subtle touch of latex or natural rubber that gives the wine a beautiful sense of gloss and shine. The finish is laced with honey-like flavors.

Opening to a pretty pale-pink color, the 2018 Sicilia Nerello Mascalese Rose di Adele is a delicate and fine wine with aromas of wild raspberry, violets and Sicilian almond blossom. This is a compact and lean wine with a steely and linear finish. Pair this Southern Italian rosato with spicy curry shrimp.

The 2018 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Lagnusa is a well-proportioned expression of this native Sicilian grape that shows equal parts primary intensity with blackberry and cherry contrasted against subtle earthy tones. This is Sicily's Nero d'Avola in all its naked glory. Pair this wine with veal involtini.
