The top-tier chardonnay here is very much in command and has a super rich and very concentrated feel with deep, ripe-peach and mango aromas with grilled-grapefruit notes, too. The palate is very rich and ripe, offering a super fleshy feel with long, rich and layered, stone-fruit flavors. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Fresh and racy in feel, with a focused beam of red currant and raspberry coulis flavors entwined with red licorice details. The finish picks up extra shiso leaf, garrigue and iron notes. Solid. Best from 2020 through 2035.

The bouquet on the 2016 Montefalco Rosso is very floral and bright with aromas of wild rose and lavender that feel etched and pronounced in this vintage. The Sangiovese element was slightly reduced in this blend, and the Sagrantino component does come through loud and clear. I notice it especially in the firmness and tightness of the mouthfeel.

Entrancingly deep, red and blue-rose aromas here with an ethereal, dried-leaf and herb edge and pristine red cherries. The palate has very impressive, fine and tight tannins and a fresh, pure core of red-cherry and plum flavor. Impeccably focused finish. Try from 2023.

Aromas of rose, red berry and wild herbs are front and center on this fresh, refined red. On the bright palate, taut, polished tannins and good acidity accompany juicy raspberry, white pepper and star anise. Drink 2020–2025.

The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a very pretty entry-level offering from Elvio Cogno. Bright red berry and lifted floral notes pair nicely with the wine's gracious, mid-weight feel. Silky tannins match the wine's finely sculpted, saline-infused personality. The Cascina Nuova is a terrific example of the bright, taut Barolos made here in 2015. I would prefer to drink this gracious, lithe Barolo over the next decade or so.

The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a dark and concentrated expression that offers succulence and richness with a full load of ripe summer plum and blackberry. There is softness here with black and purple fruit, natural rubber and savory spice. Pair this wine with a hearty beef en croute and roasted vegetables.

Complexity and layering make this wine especially interesting as it goes from aromas of apple, butter and vanilla to deeper toast and baked apple on the palate. It’s medium in body, has tantalizing acidity and a lingering finish. Best through 2026.

Aromas of white rose, citrus zest and honeydew take center stage in this crisp white. These tones follow over to the savory palate along with apricot, green melon, lemon rind and a mineral note. Bright acidity keeps it refreshing and balanced.

From the family behind Schramsberg Vineyards, the eighth vintage of this Pinot Noir is stunning. A nose of sweet cherry and rose petal leads to a delicate mouthfeel that whispers clues of sweet tobacco and salted strawberry jam. The finish of tilled soil shows balance and depth.
