“This is a powerful, some - what reductive vintage of Maté’s. Aromas of nuts, gunsmoke and toast frame concentrated stone and tropical fruit. There’s lot of oomph here, but a delicacy of fruit, too. In a polished style, and still very much a baby, this is structured for the long road ahead and should age gracefully for decades to come.”

“There are gentle toasty creamy influences, too. The palate shows lovely freshness and integrated oak on a slippery, round palate. It’s more about texture than flavor here, it’s a lovely drop nonetheless.”

Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with ripe tannins and rounded, red-berried fruit, and it has more modest acidity and a bit of black tea and forest herbs on the finish. It’s an appealing wine now, and although it will have a substantial and age-worthy life ahead, it may not be the longest-lived vintage of this wine.”

“A rich ruby color, the 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva is a selection from the best vineyards, aged for two years. The nose opens to ripe and polished aromas of toasted cedar, cherry lozenge, menthol, and spiced orange peel. Medium-bodied, it offers ripe tannins that fold into a more mineral texture, with mouthwatering stony earth and a rather long, clean finish.”

“The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Puro - Casanova is a deep ruby with magenta highlights and takes things to the next level, with woven layers with wonderful purity, notes of raspberry liqueur, violets, candied flowers, sweet sage, and fresh pine. This continues to the palate with a really refined feel, revealing ripe fruit, sweet tannins, and a seamless structure with even acidity and a long finish. This stunning wine will be hard to resist now, but there’s no question it will improve with cellaring over the next 20 or more years.”

It has good texture and concentration, with lovely focus, and never feels blowsy or overblown. It is an impressive vintage for the Vistamare, with lovely salinity on the finish. 15% Fiano."

“The 2021 Noi 4 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc that was raised for about a year in French oak. A deep ruby color, it opens to a fruity bouquet of fresh purple flowers, black raspberry, cherry liqueur, and sweet Mediterranean herbs. Although it’s approachable and full-bodied at first, its tannins and structure make themselves present on the finish.”

“Made from Malbec, Cabernet, and Merlot, the dark red 2019 Indaco is expressive with a floral perfume and ripe fruit with good purity on opening, revealing notes of blueberry, plum, polished cedar, mocha, and sweet herbs. On the palate, its plush fruit gives way to undercurrents of dark mineral earth, saline, and espresso on the finish. It offers ripe but youthful tannins, possibly from wood, and a rather persistent finish. As with the other wines in the range, it’s a great option with a New World sensibility.”

“The 2019 Scipio is deep red with a garnet tinge and opens to melding notes of cherry pie, sweet baking spices, vanilla, and tobacco. This profile continues to the palate with an autumnal feel and notes of dried herbs, rich tannins, and a modest finish. It seems to be maturing more rapidly than the other two wines from Tenuta Sette Cieli and will be best over the next several years.”

“Pouring a nearly opaque red hue, the medium to full-bodied 2022 Magari offers beautiful aromas of red apple, dark chocolate, and crushed flowers. Plush and refined on the palate, with a velvety texture and nuanced mineral underpinnings, it’s going to be a very graceful wine from this vintage. It won't be the most powerful red, but it offers a lot of finesse.”

“Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2023 Vistamare is lifted and packed with aromas of citrus zest along with a floral bouquet of concentrated key lime, starfruit, sea spray, and loads of floral citrus blossom. Medium to full-bodied, with a bit of white pepper spice, it has a fresher, more linear drive at this stage that should round and flesh out over time.”
