Rasteau Les Argiles Bleues — 2020

Wine Spectator

“There is underlying power to this seductive wine, which opens with rich blackberry paste and vanilla-steeped cherry edged in graphite and roasted herbs. This is anchored by fine-grained tannins and a salty, smoky mineral finish that lingers.”

“Showcases soft blackberry and steeped plum flavors that are approachable and round, with pencil shavings, flashes of anise and grilled thyme adding intrigue. Juicy and tasty, with nice integration on the palate and good overall length.”

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Boisrenard — 2020

“This deeply hued beauty offers a stunning bouquet of blackberries, scorched earth, licorice, ground pepper, and sappy garrigue. I always find a Burgundian-like texture on this wine, and the 2020 is no exception – this is one to put into a blind tasting of Grand Cru Red Burgundies and shock your friends. Medium to full-bodied, ultra-pure, with grippy, sappy tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish, it’s pure class all the way. This is a wine you don't want to miss, and one of the finest wines I’ve tasted from this estate.”

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Boisrenard Blanc — 2021

“Slightly deeper gold-hued compared to the classic cuvée, it offers textbook notes of sauteed peach, honeyed citrus, flower oil, and hints of green almonds. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, it has good acidity and a great finish.”

“The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape is terrific, offering classic darker berry fruits as well as peppery garrigue and sappy flower notes. As with the Boisrenard release, this has plenty of tannins and structure, but it’s beautifully balanced and has remarkable purity as well as a great finish.”

Châteauneuf-du-Pape – 2019

94 Points

The classic cuvée from this estate, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape is a winner. Lots of darker cherry and currant fruits as well as ample minerality, new leather, and scorched earth notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, concentrated classic cuvée that has plenty of ripe tannins, the freshness and acidity of the vintage, terrific balance, and the class to evolve for two decades.

Powerful nose that is shrouded in high-quality oak (which doesn't dominate). Huge concentration of dark spice-led fruit, cedary notes and wonderfully supple tannins – a blend of savoury and sweet with nothing overpowering each element. Really tight and compact but packed full of concentration.

Great purity and serious concentration without overt weight. A very powerful, complete, driving style of wine, big in tannin, acid and alcohol with a long finish.

Tasted blind. Attractive vibrant nose with zippy dark fruits and sweet fragrant tobacco notes. Firm and fine chalky tannins with a warming ripe mouthfeel but underpinned by good acidity and freshness.

Shows a creamy edge, with a mix of lemon curd, white peach and yellow apple fruit flavors, backed by hints of brioche and macadamia nut. A subtle stony underlay gives it spine on the very stylish and lengthy finish.

Juicy and forward, with a mix of raspberry, cherry and plum notes bouncing through, backed by light-handed licorice and fruitcake accents. A mesquite note curls around the finish.

Fresh and easy-going aromatics, tarragon and violets beneath the fruit. Full-bodied, a little gummy in texture, but there's a good sense of fluidity to the wine. Clearly defined confit citrus on the finish. Not quite as grand as a typical Châteauneuf perhaps but very good. Very drinkable, with a saline finish.

A gorgeous wine, brimming with gently steeped plum, blackberry and açaí berry flavors, while fruitcake, black licorice and black tea notes swirl through. The terrific graphite underpinning keeps everything moving in unison through the finish, with focus and definition.

Rasteau — 2018

In addition to their brilliant Chateauneuf du Papes, this estate makes two terrific Rasteau. Their 2018 Rasteau offers a medium to full-bodied, fruit-forward, balanced style as well as the more blue fruit character that’s common in the vintage. With classic pepper, earth, and spice notes, it should easily be an outstanding wine.

95 Points - Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018 in bottle: the top 50 wines

I love the nose, there's a dusting of cocoa and a touch of kirsch to the aromas from the oak – all very well balanced and integrated. This is a powerful, concentrated and intense wine - more intense than their Tradition, but you feel the alcohol more, at least at this stage. Otherwise well balanced, with great energy, a good sense of freshness and tension.

94 Points - Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018 in bottle: the top 50 wines

Darkly coloured, deeply fruited - a promising start. Dense, concentrated and fairly tannic but with good freshness and great vibrancy of fruit. This has all it needs to age; it promises to be longer lived than most 2018s. The alcohol is the only thing holding it back from very long ageing - will poke out in time. A very good, classic, fresh clean style, not overly polished, but it has more energy than most in this vintage.

This is a vivid and bright style without excesses with tannins that are gently grippy and give a sense of persistence to the wine. The use of oak is adept, and really helps to accentuate the ripe, bright fruits, plum, damson, raspberry juice. It has a good length of flavour and is a real joy. Made with biodynamically-grown Grenache (66%), Syrah (12%) and Mourvèdre (12%), the rest being made up of Clairette Rose, Cinsault, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Terret Noir, Picardan, Picpoul Blanc, Muscardin, Bourboulenc, Picpoul Noir, Vaccarèse, Roussanne, Picpoul Gris, Counoise and Clairette!...
