"A vibrant rosé Champagne, with firm, well-honed acidity deftly wrapped in a smooth texture and rich notes of marzipan, dried white cherry, blood orange peel and salted Marcona almond. Reveals hints of ground ginger, lemon thyme and wet chalk, with a long, lasting finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay."

“Has an attractive nose, perhaps with a bit of vanilla oak, but that will be subsumed with time. Fine delineation. The palate is well-balanced with a fine thread of acidity, clean and generous in the context of the vintage, with a lovely, lilting lemon thyme and orange pith-infused finish.”

"Has a nicely proportioned bouquet of apple blossom, wet stone and light Anjou pear scents. The palate is taut and fresh with a lovely spine of acidity, focused with ample weight towards the bright finish."

“Has a competent if somewhat reticent bouquet that gradually unfurls: apple peelings, touches of nectarine and almond. Though it is nicely focused, It never takes off like I wish it would. The palate is much more promising with well-judged acidity and judicious oak use, opening up with time to reveal a pleasant sour lemon touch towards the finish.”

“Has quite a primal bouquet: tinned peach, grapefruit and touches of wet stone, cohere in the glass and gain complexity. The palate is well-balanced with a fine, edgy entry thanks to the line of acidity. Taut, focused and nicely composed with a slight bitterness towards the brisk and lively finish.”

“The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a pretty, well-defined bouquet with cooking apple, Conference pear and light earthy scents. The palate seems to have some CO2 and feels quite primal, but I think this will sort itself out with bottle age. Moderate length with fine acidity.”

“The perfumed, quite floral bouquet of pressed white flowers infuses the Granny Smith aromas. The palate is a bit gassy on the entry, but there's plenty of energy here with Golden Delicious and dried mango notes. It just fades a bit towards the finish, but this is a lot of fun.”

“Some wet stones on the nose that extend to the palate along with some neutral limey fruit and pears. A hint of almond with bright, fresh acidity that lingers on the medium-bodied palate into the subtle, medium-long finish.”

“A quiet nose of just barely ripened wild strawberries and cherries also has a bit of the rubber and graphite of a No. 2 pencil, with tropical fruit flavors of guava and even banana emerging slowly, reiterated on the palate with a boost from blood orange.”

“Crushed rocks, rose petals and dried strawberries form a dusty and darkly alluring bouquet as the 2017 Etna Rosso Riserva Serra della Contessa Particella No. 587 grumbles up from the glass. It's silky-smooth and elegant in style. Polished red fruits and mineral tones add traction under an air of violet inner florals. Hints of sour citrus combine with a bump of residual acidity to add balance, even as grippy tannins clamp down hard through the long and structured finale.”

“The 2017 Etna Rosso Riserva Rovittello Particella No. 341 blossoms in the glass with a remarkably pretty blend of roses, lilac and violets before giving way to dried strawberries and sweet smoke. This is surprisingly round and juicy up front, propelled by vibrant acidity, with crisp red and blueberry fruits that cascade across its stern mineral core. A tinge of sour citrus comes together with lavender and tart blackberries as the 2017 finishes lightly structured and refined.”

“The 2018 Etna Bianco Superiore Pietra Marina captivates with a savory blend of crushed rocks, raw almonds and musky dried apricot. It's deeply textural with a saline tinge to its orchard fruits and brisk acidity that maintains energy throughout. The 2018 leaves a lemon and mineral twang through the long, lightly structured finale as hints of liquid stone linger. The PietraMarina is currently wrapped up tight with youthful poise, yet it should blossom beautifully in a few years.”

'“The 2021 Etna Rosso Contrada Dafara Galluzzo is exotic and floral, with a burst of ashen stone and dusty rose giving way to dried black cherries. Silky and soothing, it flows across the palate with a pure blend of red and blue fruits propelled by juicy acidity. This finishes structured and long yet perfumed, leaving violet and lavender tones to fade over a bed of fine-grained tannins. The Dafara Galluzzo is a real charmer”

“Dusty, floral, yet delicate, the 2021 Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra wafts up nuanced with rose-tinged red fruits and spice. It flows easily across the palate, soft and round, gaining traction through a core of mineral-tinged, tart cherry and strawberry tones. A cranberry crunch lingers along with edgy tannins, yet also a bump of residual acidity that maintains a lovely freshness. This is a beautiful rendition of Monte Serra.”

“Always a pleasure to taste, the 2020 Nerello Cappuccio by Benanti is one of the few varietal bottlings I have encountered of this native variety. It's dark and floral with a whiff of sweet spice that accentuates its black cherry and wild berry fruits. Round and juicy on the palate, it impresses further with depths of ripe red and fruits and sweet herbal tones as a subtly coating of grippy tannins amasses toward the close. The 2020 finishes with medium length yet leaves a big impact, slightly chewy and with a tart raspberry twang. Very nice.”

“The 2018 Brut Metodo Classico Carricante Noblesse XLVIII, refined for forty-eight months on its lees, smolders up with a rich blend of crushed hazelnuts, yellow straw and ginger-spiked apples. This mixes savory and sweet, with salty minerals and confectionary spices mingling across a wave of creamy bubbles. The 2018 finishes with a saline tinge and pretty inner florals, tapering off with medium length and spicy.”

“Peppery wild berries, dusty rose and shaved cedar waft up from the 2021 Etna Rosso Contrada Cavaliere. It's soft-textured, juicy and almost nervous in character. A sour tinge contrasts mineral-tinged red fruits and spices. The 2021 finishes structured and long, full of youthful tension, as a tart cranberry crunch lingers.”
