Rosso, Etna DOP — 2020

The Wine Advocate
94

“Beautiful in the glass with deep ruby intensity and a vibrant appearance. The bouquet reveals aromas of dried cherry, blue flower, campfire ash and grilled rosemary. There are herbal and floral sensations, along with the volcanic aromas that always come with Etna reds. To the palate, the wine is lean and elegant, showing nice tannic tension. It is firm without being bitter or powdery.”

Bianco, Sicilia DOP — 2021

The Wine Advocate
93

“The wine is generous and medium-bodied in texture with lots of apricot, Golden Delicious apple and quince. It feels supple on the palate, with pretty fruit weight, and there are citrusy aromas to close. What I like best is the richness of the mouthfeel and the long silky sensations that this volcanic white wine imparts.”

Ca’Marcanda
Camarcanda Bolgheri DOP — 2020

Decanter
94 Points

“This Cabernet dominant blend is overtly aromatic with notes of Mediterranean scrub, smoky flint and juicy black figs. The palate shows excellent depth and complexity to complement a wonderful texture. Redolent red and black berry fruits mingle with a saline character, as tinges of graphite lead this wine into its finish.”

GAJA
Barbaresco DOP — 2020

Decanter
95

“Depth, structure and complexity are the hallmarks of Nebbiolo, and this wine certainly delivers but also offers a juicy helping of fresh berry fruits. Barbaresco is the wine that launched the Gaja legacy in 1859. Aromatics of spiced orange peel, an assertive bouquet of dried purple florals and a touch of dried mint. The palate balances the savoury character of baking chocolate and fennel seed with an abundance of ripe red berry fruits—notes of strawberry and balsamic, raspberries and fresh mint and dried tobacco."

Rennina DOP — 2018

“Aromatics of Mediterranean herbs, thyme, rosemary and tarragon open to floral notes and crushed stone minerality. The palate is lithe, as Brunello goes. Lifted red and blue berry fruits and a melange of chalky minerality and savoury dried herbs mark the finish with freshness.”

Arista Winery
Chardonnay, Banfield Vineyard, Russian River Valley — 2020

“The nose is shy to begin, taking time to offer peach, citrus blossom and beeswax perfume. The medium-bodied palate pairs expansive, gently honeyed fruit with focused acidity that drives the layered finish.”

Arista Winery
Chardonnay, Ritchie Vineyard, Russian River Valley — 2020

The Wine Advocate

“Youthful tones of crème brûlée and toast give way to citrus blossoms, lemongrass and apricot on the nose. The medium-bodied palate pairs generous, honeyed fruit and a luxurious, mouth-coating texture with laser-like acidity that compels you to take another sip, and although the Arista wines generally age well, there's no reason to wait for this”

“Extraordinarily impressive, particularly given the multitude of challenges this vintage. The nose is complex and pure with continually evolving scents of white peach, panna cotta, lime peel, coriander seed and floral perfume. The palate is luxurious and satiny with a harmony of expansive, perfumed fruit and focused acidity, and its very long, energetic finish is addicting.”

Nerello Mascalese Terre di Elio Terre Siciliane IGT — 2021

The Wine Advocate
92

“We are seeing more Nerello Mascalese from central Sicily, and as expected, the grape performs very differently than it does on its native Etna. One of the most successful away-from-home interpretations comes from Feudo Montoni. The 2021 Sicilia Nerello Mascalese Terre di Elio shows bright berry and sour cherry with a lavender or lilac aroma that you don't get on the volcano. The wine's medium-rich weight is also more substantial. Terre di Elio is very a perfumed red wine.”

Milmanda, DO Conca de Barberà — 2020

jamessuckling.com

"This has a pretty nose of baked pears, custard, pie crust, macadamia nut and apricots. Bright on the palate, with lemons, crushed stones and fine lees. Medium- to full-bodied yet vibrant and fresh, showing some complexity already, with a salty undertone in the long finish. The first Milmanda that does not have malolactic fermentation."
