The 2018 Yantra, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is an attractive entry-level offering. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon and spice are pushed forward in a mid-weight, silky red that offers tons of immediacy in a fresh style that is best enjoyed on the early side. This is such a pretty wine.

Robust salmon-pink hue; dry, crisp, and aromatic, with fresh, lively flavors of strawberry culminating in a long finish. Charming, balanced, and elegant.

Thirty- and 40-year-old vines grown on stony clay and limestone soil in the south of France produced this marvelous blend of 85% Grenache Noir and 15% Syrah, which spent 18 months in French oak and two years in bottle. A perfume of lilac and licorice exudes from the glass. The deep and dark palate is beautifully assembled, with velvet-lined tannins, dried heather, black cherry, and winsome notes of peppered plum.

I tasted two vintages of the old-vine red from Priorat, from two very different years, and in both they have introduced some changes. The 2017 Perpetual comes from a warm, dry and low-yielding year when they went for a less-extractive vinification (shorter macerations), especially in the case of the Cariñena, which represents 79% of the blend here, with the remaining 21% being Garnacha. The grapes are sourced from slopes of old vines from local growers in the villages of Porrera, Torroja, Lloar, Molar and Bellmunt, mixing warmer and cooler places...

"The 2016 Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is such a complete wine. Elegant, deep and powerful, like only great Barolo can be, the Vigna Elena possesses tons of nuance and dimension from the very first taste. Exotic spice and orange zest notes open first. Ripe raspberry, mocha and autumn leaves develop later. The Vigna Elena is an absolute delight.”

A whiff of passion fruit lends a tropical twist to the nose on this wine. The palate presents a juicy combination of peach, yellow plum and rose petal, with a soft sweetness and zesty, medium-dry finish.

Rounded and ripe forest fruits, plums and sweet raspberry. Soft and unctuous on the palate with fleshy red fruit. Long, savoury finish.

The nose is a little less emphatic than I was expecting. Though the tannins and bright liquorice fruit are certainly there in abundance. This should not disappoint a newcomer to the DO even if it's a bit Priorat Lite. I'd suggest decanting it to let it flourish aromatically. The palate manages to be both warm and very stony. (The wine offers the distinct and not remotely unattractive prospect of licking warm and grainy stones.) By no means a silly price for a wine that has the potential to develop in bottle for quite a while.

The light tannins are beautifully textured and encase vivid raspberry and currant flavors matched with woody spice, licorice and floral details. Undertones of mineral and spice sail through the tangy finish. Drink now through 2026.

Delicate pine and marjoram aromatics lace flavors of plumped black cherry and wile strawberry fruit in this dense, full-bodied red. Tightly meshed, with accents of graphite, licorice and ground pink peppercorn. Give this time to unfurl.

A tight, focused red with blueberry, conifer, chocolate and cedar aromas and flavors. Rather linear in texture and length. A little tight, but a delicious and savory, even subtle wine in the end. Drinkable now, but better in 2021.

Enticing aromas of black cherry, black currant and violet are allied to flavors of iron, wet earth and spice in this red, which is loaded with fruit, vibrant acidity and well-mannered tannins. Shows terrific harmony now, yet possesses the structure to age. The long, mouthwatering finish extends the dark fruit and mineral elements. Best from 2021 through 2040.

Wow. A glorious chardonnay that I have been admiring for decades. It’s full-bodied with layers of ripe apple, hints of white peach and nougat and vanilla undertones. Creamy. It’s full-bodied and gorgeous all the way through. Drink or hold.

A stunning display of dusty florals, ripe orchard fruits and hints of honey fill out the bouquet of the 2018 Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Brut ‘Crede’. It’s deceptively soft with an inner sweetness that only adds to its upfront appeal, while saturating minerality and zesty acids build tension toward the close. This tapers off with youthful poise and a decidedly salty note which, coupled with the intensity found within, leads me to believe that the best is yet to come.

Flat-out gorgeous from start to finish, the 2019 Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze mixes power and ripeness with stimulating acids and a soothing bead of fine bubbles to create a wonderful balanced expression. Yellow florals, ripe apple, musky pear and sweet spices make for an alluring display. It’s crisp and juicy, offset by an inner sweetness that’s impossible to ignore; yet it completes the expression perfectly. This is listed as dry, yet there’s about 25 grams per liter of residual sugar here. That said, it frames the expression perfectly to create a highly pleasurable Cartizze Prosecco.

The NV Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Jeio shows crisp mineral-laced green apples and savory spice. It’s soothingly sweet and spicy, yet full of zesty energy, with ripe orchard fruits offset by a tug of brisk acids. This takes a turn toward the savory side, with salty minerals and herbs; yet energy remains high, making for a clean and wonderfully refreshing finale.
