Val di Suga
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna del Lago
Vigna del Lago, located on the northern side of Montalcino, captures the essence of a lighter, more feminine style of Brunello di Montalcino. The vineyard's continental climate and predominantly clay soils create ideal conditions for producing wines with elegance and finesse. These factors contribute to a more refined expression of Sangiovese, with a graceful balance and subtle complexity. Vigna del Lago showcases the delicate, yet expressive nature of the land, reflecting the unique terroir of this distinguished site in Montalcino.
Vigna del Lago, named after the small lake adjacent to the vineyard, was the site of Val di Suga’s first single-vineyard Brunello, produced in 1983. The vineyard is farmed using regenerative viticulture practices, ensuring long-term soil health and sustainability. Planted with over 20-year-old vines, it sits on clay soils with polygenic conglomerate, providing a unique structure that supports the development of complex, balanced fruit. With a northeast exposure, the vineyard benefits from cooler morning sunlight, preserving freshness and enhancing aromatic expression in the grapes.

Pale ruby color with fresh orange and “chinotto amaro” notes complexed by hints of dry flowers. The palate is slender and nervy with silky tannins and long-lasting finish.

"With 13,000 bottles produced, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Vigna Del Lago comes from the northeast in a slightly fresher, more continental pocket, and it pours a bright ruby hue. The nose is expressive, with crushed strawberries, herbes de Provence, incense, fennel, roses, and orange blossom. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, and seamless, with fine tannins, balanced acidity, and a floral finish that keeps it lifted and graceful. It’s highly appealing out of the gate, yet it should have a wide drinking window. Drink 2026-2046."

"Fruit and balsamic notes highlight this supple red. Black cherry, blackberry, mineral, tomato leaf, juniper and eucalyptus flavors ride the vibrant acidity, while dense, chalky tannins provide support. Shows fine harmony and length but needs a few years to integrate. Best from 2028 through 2047. 1,100 cases made, 250 cases imported."
