  • Label

    • The Label:

The Prelius label reflects the fluid nature of a coastal lake which was once where the vineyards of the Maremma region in Tuscany are today. As the area has evolved, it has established itself as an excellent location for viticulture and winemaking. The Prelius vineyards are located on a hilltop along what was once the shore of the ancient lake, three kilometers (nearly two miles) from the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The winery has received high-profile recognition for its contemporary label design, including a “Gold Label” award from Vinitaly’s International Packaging Competition and a “Red Dot” award by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany.

Reviews

  • Cabernet Sauvignon, Maremma Toscana DOC – 2012 – 89 points – Wine Spectator

"Showing more herbal than fruit flavors, this dill- and cedar-tinged red takes a linear track, with dustry tannins on the finish. Cherry and berry notes lend a supporting role."

  • Cabernet Sauvignon, Maremma Toscana DOC – 2012 – 89 points – Wine & Spirits

"Many of the great places in the world for steak happen to be wine-region-adjacent. In Tuscany, that might be a Chianti, or a deeper, darker cabernet sauvignon from the coast -- Prelius, Castello di Volpaia's Maremma winery, makes a terrific example for $16."

  • Cabernet Sauvignon, Maremma Toscana DOC – 2012 – 89 points, Best Buy – Wine & Spirits

"Prelius is Castello di Volpaia's estate in Maremma, where the Stianti Mascheroni family farms…organically to produce this wine. Its spicy scent of cedar and herbs is intriguing; its flavors of tart cherries and cherry tomatoes are simple and clean.”
