Hyde de Villaine
Californio Syrah Hyde Vineyard Napa Valley
The name Californio pays tribute to the early California settlers, or Californios, those of Spanish heritage who tamed the wilds of the frontier. As descendants of the early Californios, the Hyde and de Villaine families strive to present a Syrah that highlights one of California’s premier growing sites, Hyde Vineyard, while embodying the elegance of the Old World.
Vintage Factsheets
Hyde Vineyard, located at the eastern edge of Los Carneros, spans 2.1 acres and produces exceptional Syrah. The vineyard's vines range in age from 19 to 25 years, thriving in Haire Clay Loam soils that provide the perfect foundation for deep-rooted growth. Situated on ancient terraces and alluvial fans, the vineyard benefits from a south-by-southeast exposure, ensuring optimal sun exposure for the grapes. These unique terroir factors contribute to the distinct character and complexity of the 100% Syrah produced here, showcasing the high-quality fruit grown in this iconic part of the Carneros region.

Rich plum and blueberry aromas are framed by hues of black pepper, iron and rosemary. Fine grained tannins carry flavors of smoked meat, fennel seed, and Mission fig across the palate. This wine displays masculine, animalistic tones that are juxtaposed by flavors of Japanese plum candy and sweet lavender.

"Has pure, detailed aromas of cassis, clay, violet, cracked pepper, leather and salumi. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled with velvety tannins, vibrant acidity, iron-laced flavors and a long, perfumed finish. It will gain savory complexity in bottle over the next 15+ years."
