  • Vintage Report

    • In 2019, the weather was normal with a balanced growing season. Spring had enough rain to make up for the lack of winter rain, allowing water to accumulate in the soil. The average temperature in May was low, causing a slight delay in plant growth, but it was consistent with traditional years. Two heat waves occurred in July, but the rest of the summer was mild with sporadic rain. The Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo had good sugar levels and optimal polyphenolic structure during the harvest. The 2019 vintage produced Barolos with good structure, robustness, finesse, and acidity. These Barolos are complex and austere expressions of a traditional vintage, with the right character for long aging.

  • Tasting Notes

    • With a luminous garnet red color, the Barolo Cascina Nuova 2019 is the result of the vinification of the grapes coming from the youngest vines in MGA Ravera. Clear and representative, in this youthful phase it fully expresses hints of juicy red fruit, red-orange, and nectarine, alternating with spicy notes and balsamic hints. Of great softness and silkiness, thanks to well-integrated tannins and good freshness, it proves to find the right balance among complexity, intensity, and excellent drinkability.

Reviews

  • Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG — 2019 – Wine Spectator – 93 Points

“Balanced and harmonious, this red delivers cherry, raspberry, spice, mineral and chocolate flavors supported by a spine of refined tannins. Turns more focused on the long, mineral- and spice-tinged aftertaste.”

  • Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG — 2019 – James Suckling – 94 Points

“Attractive primary aromas of crushed strawberry and stone follow through to a full body, with fine and polished tannins and a pretty, fresh finish. Vivid is a good word to use to describe this overall.”

  • Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG — 2019 – Wine Advocate – 94 Points

“The wine opens nicely in the glass, unfolding to redcurrant and wild berry. There are varietal tones of licorice, cola and camphor ash over a firm, mid-weight texture.”

  • Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG — 2019 – Vinous – 92 Points

“Bright, effusive and beautifully lifted, right out of the gate. Crushed flowers, dried herbs, sweet red cherry, cinnamon, spice and hard candy soar out of the glass. Bright and medium in body, with plenty of verve, the 2019 is an absolute delight. I very much like the energy here.”
