Coltassala Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG
Produced for the first time in 1980, Coltassala is one of the three single-vineyard wines crafted by Volpaia, and it holds a special place in the winery's history. Over the years, it has evolved alongside the broader transformation of the Chianti region itself. Initially released as a table wine, Coltassala then progressed to Toscana IGT, reflecting the winery’s early efforts to showcase the unique potential of its terroir. As the quality and recognition of the wine grew, it became a Chianti Classico Riserva, highlighting its aging potential and the care taken in its production. Finally, Coltassala achieved the prestigious Gran Selezione designation, the highest level within the Chianti Classico DOCG.
This vineyard is one of three single-vineyard wines produced by Volpaia, located at 2,000 feet, making it one of the highest-elevation vineyards in the Chianti region. With southeastern exposure and sandstone soils, it benefits from optimal sunlight and excellent drainage, resulting in a wine that balances freshness with depth, showcasing the unique character of this exceptional Tuscan site.
