  • Introduction

    • Domaine Laroche owns 90 hectares of vineyard situated amongst the best crus with 12 Premiers Crus, 3 Grands Crus, and La Réserve de l’Obédience, a unique blend of Blanchots. All premiers and grand crus are numbered on the label.

  • Vineyard Profile

    • Domaine Laroche owns 2,17ha of this Premier Cru (105ha in total). South-Eastern exposure is perfect for great maturity. Limestone marls and Kimmeridgian limestone soils are paramount in this Premier Cru. Old vines (>60 years old) are deeply rooted and extract many available minerals.

    • Density: 5,880 vines per hectare (2,380 vines per acre).
  • Vintage Report

    • The 2021 vintage could almost be described as late as we have been used to earlier and earlier harvests in recent years. The manual harvest started on September 21st in the parcels of Vieille Voye / Vaillons / Butteaux and Blanchots. Following episodes of rain, the sanitary pressure was present but controlled by our technical teams. In the end, the juices presented promising balanced profiles which were confirmed during the maturation. The tastings conducted in the cellars showed the finesse and the good acidity present in the wines.

  • Vinification

    • Hand harvest and sorting at the winery. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels (1 to 7 years old barrels, medium
toasted, 228L, 400L, and 600L) and the wooden cask of 55hl. 9 months aging on average on fine lees in historical cellars of the IXth century at Obédiencerie.

  • Technical Information

    • Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay
    • Alcohol: 12.5%
  • Tasting Notes

    • “A more vertical nose but also very attractive perfume. Open, lovely clarity, vibrantly flavour – this quite dynamic in style, holding in the finish too – potentially a great Vaillons!” -Bill Nanson

Reviews

  • Chablis Premier Cru Les Vaillons Vieilles Vignes — 2021 – Wine Spectator – 92 Points

"An elegant, well-delineated white, with floral, lemon, herb and mineral flavors fused to a linear profile. Balanced, leaving a mouthwatering impression and sneaky length."
