  • Vineyard Profile

    • This wine is produced from a vineyard owned by Tim and Angela Coddington whose grapes have contributed to the blend of Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay since 1998. It is a vineyard that produces very rich and unctuous Chardonnay that we have long believed could make an excellent single vineyard wine. In 2006 we decided to give Coddington single vineyard status to reflect this vineyard’s unique character.

  • Tasting Notes

    • The 2019 vintage was exceptional and has produced sensational Chardonnay across the board. The single-vineyard Coddington wine is strongly colored and richly ripe in the yellow peach and apricot spectrum, with a background of toasted oak and caramelized hazelnut. It is the biggest style in our range, and satisfyingly rich as such, but also nicely balanced with its acidity.

Reviews

  • Chardonnay, Coddington, Kumeu — 2019 – Decanter – 95 Points

"The nose displays honeyed peachy tones, with elegant citrus and a touch of florality. In the mouth a generous, creamy texture is supported by beautifully integrated oak and balanced by brisk, zippy acidity. Loaded with fresh citrus – lemon, lime, grapefruit – this displays a clean mineral drive and cut to the finish. From a single, low-yielding vineyard, previously owned by Tim and Angela Coddington, this is one of Kumeu River's top expressions, characterised by its richness."

  • Kumeu River Chardonnay, Coddington, Kumeu — 2019 – Wine Enthusiast – Editors’ Choice – 95 Points

From a low-yielding single vine-yard, this white opens with smoke and flinty mineral notes weaving between concentrated yet fresh fruit. The palate is lighter than expected thanks to a line of crystalline acidity and a filigree texture. It has exceptional structure and neatly integrated oak that lets the layers of flavor shine.

  • Kumeu River Chardonnay, Coddington, Kumeu — 2019 – The Wine Advocate – 93 Points

Medium to full-bodied, but it leans more toward the pineapple-citrus side of the spectrum. Delicate hints of toasted nuts appear on the nose, while the palate offers pineapple, yellow plum and lime notes, particularly on the long, refreshing finish.

  • Kumeu River Chardonnay, Coddington, Kumeu — 2019 – Vinous – 93 Points

This Chardonnay is expansive, filling the mouth with its subtle flavors yet retaining a sense of lightness. Its girth is wrapped in a firm belt of acidity that holds everything into a streamlined whole. Chardonnay is a non-aromatic variety and the fine aromas of nectarine and oatmeal combine with a barrel-derived smoky note on the drawn-out finish.
