Vineyard Profile
-
Vineyard Region: Kumeu, Auckland, New Zealand
- Location: Kumeu is a sub-region of the Auckland wine district. Despite being situated well north of New Zealand’s other viticultural regions, Kumeu’s climate is kept cool due to its close proximity to the Tasman Sea, just 20 kilometers (nearly 12.5 miles) to the west, and the Pacific Ocean 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) to the east. These two large bodies of water generate clouds, keeping peak summer temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit).

Tasting Notes
-
This year’s Village Chardonnay features attractive lifted fruit aromas, along with a touch of nuttiness: the hint of hazelnut that is so typical of Chardonnay. The palate shows a nice peachy ripeness along with a crisp flinty character that gives the wine a refreshing cleansing quality. The 2009 vintage benefited from the decision to leave out the hard-press portion of the Chardonnays; as a result, the Village Chardonnay is particularly supple with a very fine texture that makes the wine delicious to drink. This is the perfect wine to drink while you wait for the Estate Chardonnay to get some bottle age.

“It has developed warm spice tones and the toasted malt savor of oak and lees, while the acidity keeps the wine focused.”
