Château du Moulin-à-Vent
Clos de Londres
‘La Clos de Londres’ is produced from a very specific clos of .56 hectares (1.38 acres) facing the château. The microclimate was identified 250 years ago by Madame Philiberte Pommier as exceptional, producing long-lived wines with distinctive characteristics. The weathered granite soils are sandy and thin, enriched by mineral nutrients within a granite bedrock with seams of manganese, copper, iron and other metallic oxides. The region’s frequently blowing winds have a positive effect on the maturity and concentration of the grapes.
Vintage Factsheets
"Les Grands Savarins" is a 0.783 ha plot in the heart of the "Aux Caves" terroir. The vines run along the outcropping bedrock which has a high concentration of silica. On this rock grow many cacti, proof of a particularly hot and sunny environment. The 70 year old vines are planted with eastern exposure and densities ranging from 10,000-12,500 vines per hectare.

A handsome, deep red color with purple tints and lovely aromas, with perfectly mature red and black fruit, bitter cocoa, hints of spice and floral notes of rose, peony and violet. Good body with fine tannins and good length. Rich, opulent and complex, finishing on a spicy note.

2022
"The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Londres does not quite have the precision or mineral expression as the La Rochelle on the nose. It is a little earthier with hints of espresso and dark fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant in style, with supple tannins. The whole bunch component is nicely integrated. It will probably be more approachable than other cuvées. The 2023 is very fine."
