Collepiano Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG
Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino Collepiano is a bold expression of Montefalco’s rich winemaking heritage and the distinctive Sagrantino grape, which is found only in this region. Collepiano, meaning "gentle slopes," refers to the rolling hills where the vineyards flourish, benefiting from ideal sun exposure and unique terroir. This wine embodies the renaissance of Montefalco as a premier wine region, showcasing Sagrantino’s deep, robust character with flavors of dark fruit, spices, and a touch of earthy minerality. Collepiano is a testament to Caprai’s commitment to crafting wines that highlight the singular qualities of this exceptional grape and its home.
Collepiano is Sagrantino’s area of production at Caprai. The name recalls the gentle slopes that characterize these hills that are now home to 25 to 30 year old vines. This area, known for its ideal terroir, offers perfect southern sun exposure and well-draining limestone and clay soils, allowing the Sagrantino grape to thrive. The vineyards benefit from the region’s unique microclimate, where warm days and cool nights help preserve the grape’s natural acidity while promoting the development of rich, concentrated flavors.

"The Arnaldo Caprai 2021 Montefalco Sagrantino Collepiano shows pretty balance with dark fruit flavors, baking spice and barbecue smoke. This Sagrantino offers tight focus and depth and maybe less volume overall but more vertical lift instead. This serves to give the wine direction and linearity. Collepiano is also more accessible compared to the other top wines in this range, and you get near- and medium-term drinking pleasure from this bottle."
