Te Mata
Estate Pinot Noir, Hawke’s Bay
Sourced exclusively from Te Mata Estate’s Woodthorpe Terraces vineyard located within Hawke's Bay's Dartmoor Valley. This site is home to the winery's only plantings of Pinot Noir and is kept cool from consistent westerly winds. The estate wines represent the best qualities of their variety, vintage, and Hawke’s Bay origin.
Woodthorpe Terraces is nestled between sheltering hills on elevated, free-draining, north-facing terraces in Hawke’s Bay Dartmoor Valley. The soils, which were left behind as the Tutaekuri River eroded its path through the hills to the sea, are mainly alluvial stone, clay and sandy loam. Vineyard planting began in 1994 and today Woodthorpe Terraces has 75 hectares under vine, planted to number of varietals and is the winery’s sole source for Pinot Noir.

The Estate Pinot Noir shows a red cherry core with a garnet rim and aromas of redcurrant, black cherry, prune, and cinnamon. The palate is soft and energetic, with ripe, fine tannins and notes of raspberry, licorice, and spice. Rounded and supple, it is both refreshing and sumptuous, pairing beautifully with Peking duck or beef carpaccio.

"A very direct and serious pinot noir that delivers beautifully pure strawberry and cherry character with hints of spices such as cloves. It’s medium-bodied with firm, lightly chewy tannins and a touch of smoke and matchstick at the end. Drink now. Screw cap."
