Arnaldo Caprai
Grecante Grechetto Colli Martani DOC
During the renaissance many wines were known as "Greco, Grecante, Grechetto." Montefalco's Grecante was one of the most appreciated. Indeed, the head of the Municipality of Montefalco used to send this wine as a precious gift to princes and important clergymen. Arnaldo Caprai’s Grecante keeps this long tradition alive through crafting this singular expression of this grape deomstrating its precison and balance.
Vintage Factsheets
The vineyards lie on the alluvial plain at the base of the Montefalco hills, within the Colli Martani DOC. The clay and limestone soils offer excellent moisture retention and drainage, adding mineral complexity to the wines. With a south-east to north-west exposure, the vines receive optimal sunlight, promoting balanced ripening and preserving acidity. This unique terroir combines fertile soils and a favorable microclimate, producing grapes with concentration, freshness, and structure.

2023
"The 2023 Grecante is a total pleasure on the nose, displaying crushed rocks, dusty dried flowers, vividly fresh pears and yellow apples. This opens with a pleasant inner sweetness matched by crisp orchard fruits and hints of sweet spice. Brisk acidity maintains fantastic balance and presence as the 2023 tapers off with a subtle tug of crunchy tannin and a lemony concentration that slowly fades. Of note, there was a 40% reduction in quantity in 2023 due to the onset of peronospora in the spring."
