Core is the name of the cru from which the grapes hail. The name has its origins in a vineyard that has always been called, “core,” by the farmers of Montoni. In Sicilian, “core” means heart. In fact, seen from above, the vineyard is the shape of a heart.

Vintage Report
-
The 2019 vintage has excellent climate conditions for both the red and white varietals. The spring was abundant with persistent rainfall and was cool and consistently windy, which helped dry the morning mist and rainwater off the vines. During the summer months, there was less rainfall and ample exposure to bright sunshine which assisted the fruit to mature. The nights were very cool, creating strong thermic excursions between day and night. The yields of Perricone (harvested in late-October) were very abundant and the quality was optimal, creating a wine with remarkable aromatics.
Handpicked and placed in small cases.

Feudo Montoni Perricone del Core Sicilia DOC — 2019 – Vinous – 92 Points
A mix of dusty ashen stone, black currants and hints of animal musk lifts up from the darkly alluring 2019 Perricone Core. This fills the palate with pliant, soft textures complemented by juicy notes of blackberry and inner lavender tones. It remains energetic and fruit-focused even as youthful grippy tannins settle in through the long finale, where hints of licorice and blueberry skins resonate. The Core does an excellent job of integrating the gruff Perricone tannins that often make this variety bitter and difficult to enjoy in its youth. Well done.

Feudo Montoni Perricone del Core Sicilia DOC — 2019 – Decanter – 93 Points
It’s bursting with vivid aromas of smoky blackberry, wild herbs and liquorice. The palate is full of vibrant acidity and creamy vanilla flavours, interwoven with blackberries and brambles against a sappy, green-herb background, tannins round and nicely integrated. It’s one of the best examples of Perricone I know
