Castelprile
Prelius Cabernet Sauvignon Maremma Toscana DOC
Prelius is the varietal line of Castelprile. The label represents the fluid, the essence of the ancient costal lake of Prelius, what now is known as the Maremma Toscana around Grosseto. The lake has slowly disappeared due to the drainage during the 1930’s and now the only fluid that’s left is the excellent wine making tradition of the region. The vineyards of Prelius are located on a hilltop along the shores of the ancient lake, 5 miles from the sea facing the majestic Tuscan Archipelago.
Vintage Factsheets
The Prelius Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, planted between 2001 and 2004, are situated in an ideal location that combines rich soils and a perfect exposure to the sun. The vineyards lie at an elevation of 37 to 52 meters (120 to 170 feet) above sea level, with a south-southeast exposure that ensures optimal sunlight throughout the day, promoting even ripening of the grapes. The soils are a unique mix of 80% sand, 15% clay, and 5% silt and gravel, offering excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture to nourish the vines during the growing season. This combination of soil types creates the perfect environment for growing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, with the ideal balance of structure, depth, and finesse.

2022
"The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Fragrant and bright, with terrific energy, the 2022 offers an attractive mix of forward fruit and varietal aromatics in a decidedly mid-weight style. This is far from a typical opulent Maremma Cabernet Sauvignon. The Volpaia style comes through loud and clear. What a delight."
