  • Introduction

    • This wine was originally known as the Biondi-Santi “White Label Brunello”, but changed its name in 1983, when the Rosso di Montalcino DOC was established. It reflects the signature style of our high-altitude vineyards with a vibrant freshness and a distinct fruitiness which makes it thoroughly enjoyable at a young age.

  • Vineyard Profile

    • Vineyards: The 2020 Rosso was produced with an accurate selection grapes from our proprietary vineyards.
    • Grape Source: 100% estate vineyards
    • Vine Age: 11 years
    • Clones: BBS11
  • Vintage Report

    • In 2020 a mild and dry winter, distinguished by temperatures higher than average, was followed by a cool spring characterized by high day-night temperature swings and one very exceptional snowfall on March 26th, which fortunately did not cause much damage for our vineyards as bud break was somewhat delayed. The month of June was quite rainy, permitting the soil to accumulate good water reserves.

In July and August, the days turned very warm and dry while maintaining a positive excursion of temperature between day and night, which sustained the natural balance of the vines and helped develop a good aromatic profile in the grapes. Refreshing rainfalls appeared at the end of August, right before the harvest which started on September 9th.

  • Vinification

    • At harvest, the grapes displayed a perfect balance between fruit, tannins, and acidity. Traditional red wine vinification at controlled temperatures

    • Aging: 12 months in Slavonian oak
  • Technical Information

    • Varietal Composition: 100% Sangiovese Grosso (BBS11 Clone)
    • Alcohol: 13.5%
  • Tasting Notes

    • Juicy notes of red berry fruits and plums rise from the glass on an energetic wave releasing flowery sensations of violets and red roses accompanied by refreshing hints of citron peel and blood orange and a crush of fresh Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it is vibrant and lively with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and succulent, crunchy fruit leading towards a long-lasting, savory finish. An elegant and charming vintage.

  • Rosso di Montalcino — 2020 – Wine Spectator – 90 Points

"Displays cherry, strawberry, floral and black pepper flavors. Though on the elegant side, this bright, juicy red offers firm tannins and a peppery finish."

  • Rosso di Montalcino DOC — 2020 – James Suckling – 93 Points

“Generous aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries, turning to flowers and stones with some crushed cement. Medium body with firm tannins that fill the mouth, as well as lively acidity and depth of fruit.”
