Familia Torres Priorat
Salmos, DOQ Priorat
Salmos originates in a beautiful, hidden land, in the rocky hills about 2 hours south of Barcelona and only 12 miles inland from the Mediterranean Sea. Not much exists in this area besides beautiful vistas, old vines making exceptional wines and extremely steep hillsides. The vineyards, planted on steep shale (llicorella slate) slopes, are subjected to significant variations in temperature between night and day. These natural challenges contribute to the allure of this wine. Salmos is a tribute to the monks of the Carthusian order who planted the first vines in Priorat in the 12th century. A wine that protects the mysterious heritage of ancient times and wise men. Salmos pays tribute to the two native varietals to the Priorat region and is a blend of solely Cariñena and Garnacha.
Vintage Factsheets
In the mid-1990s, Familia Torres planted vineyards in Porrera and El Lloar, where they would later build the winery, and decided to wait at least 10 years to start using some of the parcels. Today, more than two decades after they first planted them, the vineyards have become firmly established, each with its own special characteristics. To make Salmos, the winery chose the beautiful La Giberga vineyard, located in the municipality of Porrera. Soils here developed from carboniferous slate (Palaeozoic), characterized by being shallow, with rapid drainage and a low capacity for water retention which impart the unique typicity of Priorat wines.

"An elegant red, with creamy-edged tannins providing supple definition for flavors of creamed cherry and baked plum, plus tobacco, paprika and vanilla accents. A subtle underpinning of fresh, loamy earth shows on the focused finish."
