  • Introduction

    • The Davies family of Schramsberg Vineyards and Davies Vineyards in the Napa Valley is pleased to release its eleventh vintage of Pinot Noir still wines. The family’s experience with Pinot Noir dates back to 1967, when Jack and Jamie Davies first used this elegant red varietal to make their inaugural vintage of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine. Over the 54 years following that first use, Schramsberg’s winemakers have built long-lasting relationships with some of the best Pinot Noir growers along the North Coast. Developing upon this passion, history and experience, second-generation Vintner Hugh Davies and Director of Winemaking Sean Thompson are proud to present this vineyard-designate Pinot Noir wine from the 2019 vintage.

  • Vineyard Profile

    • The Ferrington Vineyards property, located approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco and 17 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, is in a fertile pocket of land found at the edge of the northeastern foothills of Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley. Between 360 and 440 feet above sea level, the vines utilize over six feet of Boontling and Pinole loam soil, sustainable farming practices and deficit irrigation to produce approximately 2.5 tons per acre of bright, complex fruit with great balance. Cool, foggy nights and steadily warming days provide a long, even growing season which delivers mature fruit depth with a vibrant, acidic backbone. Ferrington Vineyards is managed by our long-time grape growing partner, Paul Ardzrooni.

    • Clones: 828, 777, Pommard, 667, 115
  • Vintage Report

    • The 2019 growing season in Anderson Valley started off with a wet spring, causing bud break and bloom to occur later than normal. The weather remained moderate through most of the season; canopies were healthy and strong allowing for gradual ripening. The starting date of harvest was average compared to previous years, with yields coming in light to normal. With lighter yields, vines were able to produce fruit with exceptional quality, balanced acidity and concentrated flavors and aromas.

“Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Ferrington Vineyards offers glossy new-oak aromas with a core of dried cranberries and cherries, plus nuances of tobacco, dried herbs and citrus. The medium-bodied palate has an intense core of red fruits with layered earthy, spicy accents on the long finish. It’s soft, juicy and super easy to drink!”

  • Pinot Noir, Ferrington Vineyards, Anderson Valley — 2019 – Wine Enthusiast – 93 Points

"Brightened by red cherries and cinnamon in the aromas and flavors, this wine offers everything in good balance. Light tannins and a nip of acidity support its ripe red- and black-cherry flavors that are accented subtly with baking spices from oak aging."
