Burgundy’s Triple Crown

The 2006 vintage marks the third outstanding year in succession for the Chardonnays of Burgundy. This is the good news for fans of these dry, complex white wines… Among the top 2005s in this report are a pair from Domaine Leflaive. Its Chevalier-Montrachet 2005 (97) is creamy in texture and layered with citronella, peach, floral and mineral aromas and flavors, while the domaine’s Bâtard-Montrachet 2005 (96) delivers exotic notes of apricot, vanilla cream and a hint of coconut on a heavy-weight frame. Joseph Drouhin’s exquisite Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche 2005 (96) displays its layers of spring blossom, honeysuckle, citrus, hazelnut and mineral flavors in a vibrant fashion.
