California sparkling wine: The Chronicle recommends

Bubbles usually surface on the brain about a month from now. But since wine-related stress seems to spike around Thanksgiving, why not get a jump on our annual topic of domestic fizz?

So here’s to those who have kept their faith in the fizzy – and dry.

NV Schramsberg Mirabelle North Coast Brut ($25, 12.8%): When Schramsberg’s nonvintage second bottling is on its game, it’s one of the best deals in bubbly. That’s the case right now. Mostly made from Chardonnay, it’s fresh with pear, freesia and chalk accents, pretty citrus fruit and a wonderful strawberry edge. The texture is the selling point: just enough bready opulence without being too stately.
