Château Gassier Brings Provençal Excellence to Wilson Daniels Portfolio

ST. HELENA, CA (January 28, 2016) — Top Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire producer Château Gassier joins the portfolio of leading fine wine marketing and sales company Wilson Daniels, developing the winery’s presence in the US market as consumer interest in rosé wine increases.

Wilson Daniels will release three Château Gassier wines to the US market in coming months: Esprit Gassier, Côtes de Provence; Le Pas du Moine, Cru Sainte-Victoire (February 2016) and 946 Rosé, Grand Vin de Provence (April 2016).

Château Gassier stands out as the only Provençal estate within the exceptional European partners that form the core of Wilson Daniels import portfolio.

“Château Gassier is among the region’s finest wine producers,” says Wilson Daniels president Rocco Lombardo. “We are thrilled to welcome the winery’s expertise in producing first-rate rosé wines, a category which has recently witnessed a revolution in quality and revived interest among trade, critics and consumers alike.”

With roots in the region dating back to 1421, the Gassier family has been involved in grape growing since the 19th century. In 1982, Antony Gassier purchased the estate as it is today — 99 acres on the slopes of Mount Sainte-Victoire in Provence. The vineyards are managed by Antony’s son and fifth-generation vintner Georges Gassier while winemaking is overseen by Guillaume Cordonis.

For Château Gassier president Olivier Souvelain, Wilson Daniels is the clear choice for managing the import and distribution of the estate’s wines.

“Their team of professionals, experienced in working with estates of the highest caliber, will allow us to bring rosé wines from the wonderful terroir of the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire cru to the US market,” he says. “We are convinced that this partnership will bring the color of Provence Sainte-Victoire rosé to the most prestigious tables and renowned wine retailers.”

The property’s unique location in the heart of the Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire appellation allows the estate to produce distinctive wines while maintaining the Provençal style. Four principal terroirs create the ideal sites for a multitude of grape varieties: The west end of the property has silt and sand suited for Syrah; in the south, dry and rocky soils are planted to Grenache and Vermentino; low on the slopes to the east are deep and rocky soils for Cinsault.

Chateau Gassier’s diligent sustainability efforts are apparent in many ways: In the winery, floor and window insulation and energy-saving lighting reduce environmental impact. In the vineyard, the team has embraced organic practices since 2010 — the estate will be officially certified organic with the 2016 vintage — and works in partnership with the Grand Site Saint-Victoire to protect and fuel the property’s biodiversity.
