“This year Drinks International’s World’s Most Admired Wine Brands report has undergone a metamorphosis. The voting is more robust, the number of academy members has quadrupled, the survey has expanded and the results are telling.

“The voting academy — comprising masters of wine, sommeliers, educators, and journalists — all rose to the occasion in contributing to the poll.

“Royal Tokaji Wine Company came in at number 25 in the top 50. Tokaji was the tipple of choice for some of the most illustrious and influential people in history.

“From Beethoven to Heinrich Heine to Voltaire and Goethe; Emperor Franz Josef sent Queen Victoria a bottle of Tokaji Aszu wine for every month she had lived each birthday. On her 81st and last birthday in 1900, this is said to have totalled 972 bottles.

“The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was co-founded in Hungary in 1990 by notes author and wine historian Hugh Johnson and since then has exported to more than 30 countries and received more than 100 international awards.”
