Domaines Leflaive
Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru – 2008

Wine Enthusiast

“This beautiful wine is austere at this very young stage. But what pent-up power—the richness comes from glorious ripe fruit, tempered with a core of steel and wrapped with pure lemon, apricot and toast flavors. Age for 10 years at least.”

“Beautiful lemon-scented wine, balancing rich butter and apricot flavors with intense, pure acidity. The wine at this stage is toast and fruit, still coalescing into its long-term future.”

“A tense, mineral wine, striated with citrus zest and toast. The wine is tight, nervy in character, holding back its future richness under a firm structure.”

“This elegant and cool effort sports a completely different nose with more roasted nut and citrus influence to the ripe orchard fruit aromas that introduce mineral-inflected and vibrant middle weight flavors that also possess fine balance and plenty of underlying tension. Excellent.”

"…mostly yellow orchard fruit aromas that precede rich, round and mouth coating flavors that exude dry extract that buffers the moderately firm acid spine on the lightly mineral-driven and acceptably complex finish."

“…displays notes of citrus, pear and acacia blossom… There is very good verve and punch to the detailed and mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that culminate in a focused, complex and solidly long finish.”

"…rich, forward and wonderfully opulent mediumbodied flavors that brim with dry extract that coats the palate on the refined and impressively long finish. As it always is, this is a classy wine of finesse but with a generous side to it in 2009."

"An ultra-pure and high-toned nose of wet stone, spiced pear and acacia blossom gives way to even stonier and quite finely detailed broad-shouldered flavors…built on a base of liquid limestone with impeccable balance and flat out stunning persistence…"

“A clearly very ripe yet notably restrained nose offers up notes of white and yellow fruit, mango, spice, minerals and soft oak hints only under the duress of aggressive swirling. The massive, rich and exceptionally full-bodied flavors display no such moderation however as they unleash a seemingly full-frontal attack on the palate as the intensity is borderline painful and the finish doesn’t seem to stop as I could still taste this an hour later. Speaking of ‘wow’ wines, this qualifies as well.”

"delicious, round and quite generous medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent depth on the focused and unusually powerful finish...This is quite simply terrific and while there is good power, the ’08 Pucelles remains a wine of finesse."

“Balancing sweet wood and mineral-driven citrus character, this is elegant and stylish, showing peach and grapefruit flavors. The wood, so fine, acts as balance and support.”
