A mouthful of black currant, blackberry, violet, cedar and iron lends immediate gratification in this polished red. Vibrant and balanced, with a long, firm finish that echoes dark fruit and mineral.

Dark tones of black cherry and blackberry add details of mint and eucalyptus, while the tannins are robust yet integrated. The finish is slightly chewy.

This Bourdeaux-style blend combines velvety dark chocolate richness with meaty savor in an intriguing juxtaposition. Its plummy, spicy fruit shows good freshness and verve.

Shows a tangy crunch to the blackberry and plum flavors, that ripe fruit edged with notes of fresh herbs and lively black spice.

The 2016 Scipio combines leafy Cabernet Franc and breezy coastal Tuscany with great results. It has a delicious nose of black fruits, damp earth, a touch of dark chocolate and herbal scents, even a touch of seaweed. In the mouth it has plenty of intensity, polish, focus and grip. A stony quality tightens up the palate as it corkscrews through the core of black fruits, while currants, raspberry, chocolate, herbs and raspberry leaf dance around. There's a splash of coffee and peppery spice at the end and although it's a touch dry on the finish at present, it features persistent fresh acidity.

Ripe, leafy red and black berry aromas are accompanied by a sweet creamy note. Focused berry flavours and juicy fine-grained tannins develop some wood and mint on the mid-palate, with a finish carried on the shoulders of its fresh acidity and flecked blueberry, coffee, tobacco, herbs and soft spices. Long, sculpted and elegant.

This has a velvet-softness, its glowing fruit avoiding the herbaceousness with which Cabernet Franc typically adorns itself.

Taut and linear in profile, its black currant, plum, cedar, loam and tobacco flavors fused to the spine of tannins. It ends with a pleasant astringency. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2033.

The 2016 Indaco (Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) is laced with a whole range of floral and savory notes that give it a very distinctive aromatic profile. Crushed raspberry, blood orange, rose petal, mint and cedar are all laced together. Medium in body and silky, the 2016 has plenty to offer. I find the aromatics a bit diffuse, although aeration does seem to help. Otherwise, this Malbec-based blend is nicely done.

The 2016 Scipio, the estate’s top Cabernet Franc, is impressive. Deep and powerful in the glass, the 2016 packs a serious punch. Dark macerated cherries in liqueur, spice, leather, sweet pipe tobacco and dried herbs are some of the many nuances that come alive in the glass. Broad and resonant, the Scipio shows the darker, more brooding side of Franc off to great effect. Hopefully the tannins will soften from here, as there is quite a bit of potential. The 2016 is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Sette Cieli.

The 2018 Yantra, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is an attractive entry-level offering. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon and spice are pushed forward in a mid-weight, silky red that offers tons of immediacy in a fresh style that is best enjoyed on the early side. This is such a pretty wine.

Top notes of jasmine and rose add perfume to the cherry and blackberry core in this concentrated red. Elegant yet firmly structured, with dense, dusty tannins gripping the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2021 through 2030. 1,000 cases made, 250 cases imported.

The warm, dry 2015 growing season brought full ripeness to the cabernet franc growing in Tenuta Sette Cieli's hillside vineyards overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The wine is rich and soft, the flavors of red and black berries framed by notes of dark chocolate and sweet spice gained from two years in French oak barrels (40 percent new). Ample alcohol (15 percent) adds weight and warmth to the finish.

A blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, this brawny red opens with aromas suggesting mature dark-skinned berry, Mediterranean brush and cedar. The concentrated, forward palate delivers ripe black plum, star anise and mocha alongside polished tannins. Drink through 2023.
