Pinot Noir, Ferrington Vineyard, Anderson Valley – 2013

A nose of wild berry, forest floor, black pepper, graphite and blackberry preserves is complemented by flavors of black plum, pomegranate and espresso. The mid-palate is silky and rich, leading into a long, layered finish.

Chardonnay, Russian River Valley – 2013

Flavors of toasted brioche, lemon butter and peach combine with a balancing structural component of flint and wet rocks. Lemon oil and chamomile add a layer of complexity. There is great tension, with medium-plus acidity supporting a long finish.

On the nose, the wine displays wet granite, brioche, vanilla bean, lemon oil and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is pure silk, with honeydew, lemon butter, mango and panna cotta. This Chardonnay has incredible density, intensity and length.

An elegance, lightness and minerality drive the palate. Aromas of lime curd, orange blossom, wet granite and baking spices emanate from the glass. The wine is silky on the mid-palate with pear skin, spiced pear and lemon oil carrying the long finish.

Chardonnay, Ritchie Vineyard, Russian River Valley – 2017

From one of the Grand Cru sites in the Russian River (although it's a big, diverse site), the 2017 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard saw the standard 12 months in one-third new French oak followed by six months in stainless steel. Buttered pineapple, nectarines, honeyed flowers, almond paste, toasted bread, and honeysuckle notes all emerge from the glass, and this beauty is full-bodied on the palate and flawlessly balanced. The purity of fruit is just about off the charts, and it has good acidity as well as a great mid-palate...

Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley – 2017

Moving to the reds, the 2017 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley was all destemmed (as are all the Pinot Noirs here) and was brought up 11 months in just 20% new French oak. Its ruby/plum and translucent hue is followed by a savory nose of mulled black cherry and currant fruits interwoven with lots of spice, forest floor, earth, and bouquet garni. Textured and medium-bodied, with good acidity and great balance, I suspect it's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and should have a decade or more of overall longevity.
