Elena Walch
Beyond the Clouds Alto Adige Bianco DOC
Produced since 2000, Alto Adige‘s first white ‘super cuvée’ is a parcel selection of the highest quality grapes from different grape varieties, fermented and matured together in wood. The different levels of maturity of the grape varieties and a selection that is already created in the vineyard are reflected in the untamed character of the cuvée. A testament to excellence and a one-of-a-kind example from this region that will stand the test of time in cellar.
Vintage Factsheets
Elena Walch’s "Beyond the Clouds" is crafted from select vineyards in Alto Adige, located at altitudes between 600 to 800 meters above sea level, where the cool mountain air and abundant sunshine allow for slow, even ripening. The terroir is defined by calcareous soils rich in minerals, including clay, sand, and porphyry, which provide excellent drainage and foster healthy, balanced vines. The southeast and southwest-facing slopes benefit from optimal sun exposure, while cooler evening temperatures preserve the grapes' natural acidity and freshness. The vineyards are managed sustainably, with hand harvesting and careful vine selection ensuring only the best fruit is used, resulting in a wine that embodies the elegance, freshness, and minerality characteristic of Alto Adige.

In the nose, a complex, beguiling play of aromas unfurls with fruity nuances of exotic fruits such as pineapple, notes of blossoms and flowers, of rose petals and light toast aromas. Dense and complex, the wine enthuses on the palate: with fullness and structure, creamily soft and elegant, stimulatingly fresh and juicy with a discreetly incorporated, modest note of wood and a long reverberation of taste.

"The 2021 Beyond the Clouds wafts up with an airy blend of confectionary spice, chamomile, stone dust and spicy hints of ground ginger. This is seamless and silken in feel, with ripe orchard fruits offset by flinty minerality. A cooling acidity adds lovely balance. It leaves a staining of primary concentration while finishing gently tannic and long. Sour citrus hints fade under an air of almond custard. This is a beautiful interpretation of the vintage, with amazing aromatics, a solid core of vividly ripe fruit and brilliant acidity to balance. Lose the 2021 in the cellar for another year or more, and then watch it mature gracefully over time."
