  • Vineyard Profile

    • Grape Source: 100% estate vineyards

  • Vintage Report

    • The season began with a rainy winter, followed by a rainy spring with mild temperatures. The summer months brought sun, warmth, and stability with temperatures lower than the seasonal average. Rainfalls between the end of August and the beginning of September extended the pre-harvest time, favoring a very slow but balanced ripening of th grapes where the fruit benefitted from important day/night temperature swings, which enriched the aromatic profile.

    • Alcohol: 14%
    • Optimum Drinking: Serve at 60/64˚ F. Uncork the wine 2 hours before serving.
  • Tasting Notes

    • The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a truly majestic wine. The bouquet is packed with intense fruity notes of black berries, pomegranate, and plums, intertwined with scents of Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, rosemary, and sage, rising from a carpet of forest floor.

On the palate, the wine seduces with exuberant charm and caressing sweetness. The youthful tannins reveal its immense structure and contribute to creating a distinctive sensation of freshness which leads us towards a long-lingering, savory finish.

  • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva — 2016 – James Suckling – 98 Points

"Aromas of strawberries, flowers, fresh mushroom, forest flower, sandalwood, and hints of balsamic. Full-bodied and tight on the finish. This is a linear and fine-tannined red."

  • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva — 2016 – Wine & Spirits – 95 Points

"Biondi-Santi's 2016 Riserva is for old-school Brunello lovers with plenty of patience. Initial aromas of damp leaves and rust gradually recede as vigorous red cherry and raspberry flavors come to the fore, still tinged with hints of rust and baked clay yet taking on notes of savory herbs and warm spices. The wine continues to gain verve and complexity over the course of several days, suggesting this will really start to sing after a decade in the cellar."

  • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva — 2016 – Jeb Dunnuck – 98 Points

“This is layered and unfolds in the glass with incense, baking spice, ripe red cherry, and cedar. It has more concentration and length through the mid-palate and offers an impeccable balance of structure, ripeness, and tension. It is expressive on the nose, but it is even more impactful at this stage with its intensity through the palate, with nearly electric energy of wild raspberry, rose petal, tea leaf, and orange zest."

  • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva — 2016 – Wine Spectator – 98 Points

“A harmonious, balanced red, this sets the stage perfectly for the cherry, strawberry, floral, iron and tobacco flavors. Fresh and detailed, with a linear profile and refined structure driving the seemingly endless finish. Superb.”
