  • Introduction

    • The Davies family, proprietors of Schramsberg Vineyards and the J. Davies Estate in Napa Valley, presents its ninth vintage of Davies Vineyards “Napa Valley” Cabernet Sauvignon. Expanding on knowledge gained through the production of the J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the Diamond Mountain estate, this bottling represents an outstanding range of sites across the Napa Valley. Each vineyard is intentionally farmed to produce low yields, resulting in vivid, concentrated flavors. The finished wine exhibits vibrant fruitful flavors, a rich texture, and firm tannic structure, allowing for enjoyment now as well as extended aging.

The Napa Valley was California’s first AVA, or American Viticultural Area, recognized by the U.S. government in 1981. Though just 30 miles long and a few miles wide, Napa Valley is one of the most geologically diverse wine regions in the world. Home to various microclimates, terrain and soils, it has a dry Mediterranean climate which is ideal for producing consistent wines from vintage to vintage. This climate provides near perfect growing conditions during the peak growing season with little rainfall, warm days, and cool nights. Throughout the growing season, the canopy is carefully managed to ensure optimal fruit development.

  • Vintage Report

    • The 2020 Napa grape season will be remembered for years to come, but unfortunately for some reasons outside of traditional metrics. The winter was moderate and dry, with limited rain to restore groundwater. Budbreak, flowering and fruit set got the season off to a great start; however, once the area’s Cabernet Sauvignon was ready to harvest, the area was struck with the devastating Glass Fire. While a small percentage of the 2020 Cabernets had been harvested when the fire started, the remainder of the season’s harvest was lost due to the intense heat and smoke. We are glad that we were able to harvest the about 10% of our Cabernet blocks prior to the fire, allowing us to craft this exceptional red wine.

  • Tasting Notes

    • “This deep ruby colored 2020 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon opens up with rich aromas of plum, boysenberry, raspberry compote and blueberry, and is accentuated with notes of milk chocolate, mocha, baking spice and licorice. Integrated tannins anchor the wine’s palate, where a bright entry of generous fruit, including cherry and blackberry, harmonizes with undertones of vanilla and toasted brown spice. The wine is supported with a fine-grained structure and ends with a long lively finish.”

Reviews

  • Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley — 2020 – James Suckling – 92 Points

“Juicy and vibrant with notes of currants and raspberries as well as hints of dried flowers, cardamom and savory herbs. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy texture and velvety tannins. It has a mellow succulence of ripe wild berries and a crunchy, blue-fruited finish.”
