J. Davies "Jamie" Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate, Diamond Mountain District Napa Valley
The Davies family, proprietors of Schramsberg and Davies Vineyards in Napa Valley, presents the tenth vintage of J. Davies Estate “Jamie,” the finest Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Diamond Mountain property. Named in honor of Schramsberg matriarch Jamie Davies, the wine reflects the legacy she and her husband Jack began in 1965 with their vision of producing world-class American sparkling wine. Today, a second generation of the Davies family, led by son Hugh and his wife Monique, continues that legacy through the production of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon from the family’s hillside estate.
The vineyard blocks, totaling 46 acres, are laid out in four isolated pockets ranging from 500 to 1000 feet in elevation. They include the two Schram sections, Napa Valley’s first hillside vineyards, originally established in 1862 by Jacob Schram, the McEachran parcel, first planted by Colin McEachran in 1878, and the Claes parcel, dating back to 1984. These are the southernmost vineyards in the Diamond Mountain District AVA. Flanked by two cool creek canyons (Nash Creek to the north and Ritchie Creek to the south) and surrounded by compact coniferous and deciduous forests, the vines here produce late-ripening, richly concentrated fruit with average yields of just two tons per acre.

The J. Davies Estate “Jamie” Cabernet Sauvignon opens with black cherry, cassis, and citrus peel, layered with forest floor, eucalyptus, espresso, and roasted almond. The palate shows black raspberry, blueberry, sarsaparilla, and cocoa, framed by fine-grained tannins and a rich, lingering finish.

"Selected from the best six-to-seven barrels and named for Hughes Davies’ mother, Jamie Davies, this wine comes from a notably cool site, and in a cool vintage that character really shows in the texture. Long-chained tannins give a sense of length and firm structure, yet they are beautifully polished at the edges and framed by cool granitic minerality. The fruit profile leans distinctly blue, layered with a toasty richness and beautifully integrated spice. Profoundly inky and dark, the wine is expansive, impressively long, and delicious."

Tasted as a final blend prior to its scheduled bottling in December 2025, the 2023 J. Davies Jamie is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Merlot that spent 26 months in 80% new French oak. Despite the extra time in wood, it's remarkably expressive and floral on the nose, then backed by ample notes of cassis, blueberries and vanilla. It's full-bodied, creamy, concentrated and— somehow—seemingly weightless as well, with a plush, silky-velvety finish.
