Te Mata Estate Sauvignon Blanc is sourced exclusively from Te Mata’s estate vineyards in the Bridge PA Triangle and Havelock Hills sub-regions of Hawke's Bay.
The Bridge Pa Triangle has summer temperatures that are among the hottest in Hawke’s Bay. This long, dry heat, combined with free-draining silt loam over a red, mineral gravel base, make this a superb site.
First planted in 1892, the Havelock Hills are the heart of Te Mata Estate’s wine production and home to the winery. Te Mata Estate has five sites on these free draining, north-facing slopes, including the 1892 vineyard – one of New Zealand’s oldest vineyards, originally called the Hill Block. Soils to the east of the property are predominantly sandy loam over a sandstone base. Towards the west are sandy loam over clay and silica. The distinctive terrain lies at the intersections of two tectonic plates, which has paved the landscape of steep and gentle sloping terraces, ideal for grape-growing.

The finest, lightest, gold in the glass – with dancing, lime highlights – The Estate Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc jumps with the aromas of bright gooseberry and lemon zest, yellow guava and luscious grapefruit. The palate that follows is mouthwatering in its concentration of ripe, tropical fruit. Notes of white-fleshed nectarine, and salinity build into a texture defined by freshness and balance that drives the wine powerfully towards its fine, fresh, finish.

"Always a very supple and seamless wine. There’s plenty of peach, lemon, guava, crème brûlée and cashew to enjoy, plus hints of bran biscuit and a flick of flint on the nose. The silky palate has a very nicely judged line of acidity that draws a thread right through the wine, adding tautness to the ripe fruit and emphasising the long finish."
