Bergström Wines
Gargantua Oregon Syrah
Gargantua is Bergström Wines' effort to craft world class Syrah from the West Coast of the United States. Led by Josh Bergström's unwavering belief that American West Coast Syrah is unique, delicious, and belongs in the same conversation as the wines from France’s Northern Rhône Valley and other hallowed terroirs. To honor the purity of the Syrah fruit sourced from the best sites, they employ whole-cluster fermentation and neutral oak aging, allowing their unique character to shine through this wine with precision and finesse.
The vineyards feature a balanced and varied field clonal selection, with 19-year-old vines. The sites benefits from diverse exposures and a range of soil types, contributing to a complex and dynamic growing environment.

This wine has a complex character that reveals more and more with each minute in the glass. Dark, black cherry in color with classic Syrah aromas of pepper, tarragon, forest floor, matsutake mushroom, rosemary and thyme garrigue, cured meats, tar, tobacco, leather, and sanguine iron. Juicy and vibrant on the palate with full-bodied and ripe fruit flavors of fig, plum, and cane berries. Joining the fruit are notes of savory herbs, olive tapenade, and bresaola.

2019
"The fruit for this wine is drawn from multiple Oregon sites, the contribution form the Rocks most pronounced, pointing up the scents of olive and molasses, fig jam and smoke. The age on the wine has accorded it a dark savor and smooth texture, velvety soft, with supple tannins and a quiet intensity."
